The University of Akron softball team extended its winning streak to four straight on the strength of an 8-3 triumph past Eastern Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 25.

The Zips were leading their second game of the day versus Southeast Missouri State, 5-4, when rain suspended the contest in the second inning. The game is scheduled to be restarted at 12:30 p.m. before Akron battles host Chattanooga following the games conclusion to close out tournament play.

A bases-loaded single in the top of the first inning by sophomore Alexis Campbell (Indianapolis, Ind.) plated a pair of runs and gave the Zips a lead they didn't relinquish. Junior Kalli Macintosh-Houlder (Mississauga, Ontario) followed with a two-out single to extend Akron's advantage to 3-0.

Redshirt junior Jaiden Bryant (Hilliard, Ohio) opened the fourth inning with a lead-off triple and scored on a throwing error to push the Zips' margin to 5-0. Macintosh-Houlder capped the scoring in the frame blasting Akron's first home run of the season over the wall in center field to extend the lead to 6-0.

The Zips got an RBI single by Campbell in the top of the seventh inning before freshman Meagan Lee (Leander, Texas) scored on a wild pitch after reaching base on a hit by a pitch to give Akron an 8-1 edge.

Macintosh-Houlder finished the contest 3-for-3 with 3 RBI and a run scored to lead the Zips' offensive efforts. Adding a 2-for-4 day with 2 RBI and a pair of runs scored was Bryant.

Freshman P Haley Croyle (Hubbard, Ohio) pitched a complete game en route to striking out eight Eastern Illinois batters.
