Portage County Sheriff's Office - Ohio issued the following announcement on January 27.
On January 26, 2022, the Portage County Sheriff’s Office P.A.C.E. (Portage Aggressive Crime Enforcement) Unit conducted interdiction on State Route 43 (N. Aurora Road) in the City of Aurora. Deputies observed a vehicle with an obstructed license plate and a traffic stop was conducted on State Route 43 at Aurora Lake Road.
During the stop K-9 Karo alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle. A probable cause search was conducted. During the search deputies located approximately one pound of marijuana, a loaded firearm, and over $13,000.00 in US Currency.
The driver and passenger of the vehicle were both charged with trafficking in drugs, possession of drugs, and receiving proceeds of an offense. The passenger was prohibited from owning firearms due to a prior trafficking in drugs charge. Charges related to the firearm are pending further investigation.
