Portage County Sheriff's Office - Ohio issued the following announcement on February 11.
***SCAM ALERT*** The Portage County Sheriff’s Office is aware of recent fraudulent calls being made that MAY appear as numbers associated with the Portage County Sheriff’s Office. We are actively investigating the fraudulent activity. In the meantime, please be aware that PCSO will never contact you to discuss ANY Warrants or requests for payment for said Warrants.
While Deputies may conduct business over the phone, please use caution. If you suspect that a Deputy is not legitimate, please collect their name and information and call our Dispatch at 330-296-5100. A Dispatcher can connect you to the Deputy directly or confirm who they are.
