WASHINGTON, D.C. – On June 14, Congressman Dave Joyce’s (OH-14) bill, the Limiting the Intrusive Bureaucracy and Empowering Regulatory Transparency for You (LIBERTY) Act, passed the House of Representatives as a part of the Regulations from the Executive In Need of Scrutiny (REINS) Act. This legislation will now head to the Senate.

Earlier this month, Congressman Joyce introduced this legislation alongside Congressman Jared Golden (ME-02) to ensure that economically significant guidance documents are subject to public notice and comment periods and much-needed Congressional oversight.

Watch Congressman Joyce’s floor speech here.

“Guidance documents were never intended to be used by Presidents to unilaterally enact their agenda, but today, that is precisely what we are seeing,” said Congressman Joyce. “My legislation will ensure that guidance documents cannot be used by the executive branch without any review or accountability. I am proud to see this legislation pass the House to provide Washington with a much-needed dose of transparency and accountability to the American public.”
