The Ohio House of Representatives has agreed with the Ohio Senate on Substitute House Bill 81, designating a section of State Route 76 in Portage County as the "Patrolman William J. Keller Memorial Highway." This was announced by State Representative Gail Pavliga, representing Portage County.

"I am so happy for Patrolman Keller’s family that we are one step closer to ensuring his memory lives on,” Pavliga stated.

Patrolman William J. Keller lost his life on October 14, 1972, when he was hit by a pickup truck during a traffic stop on Interstate 76 in Rootstown, Portage County. He had served only ten months before making this ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

Keller was affiliated with the Ravenna Post and graduated from the 93rd Academy Class. At the time of his death, he was just 27 years old.

The highway segment proposed for dedication runs through Rootstown Township in Portage County from Mile Post 35.3 to Mile Post 41.1.

House Bill 81 is now awaiting the Governor's signature to become official.
