WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Congressmen Dave Joyce (OH-14) and Sanford Bishop (GA-02) recently reintroduced the maintaining USPS Door Delivery Resolution to take all appropriate measures to ensure the continuation of door delivery for all business and residential customers.

“With over 36 million customers and 7.3 million employees, the U.S. Postal Service plays a critical role in communities across Ohio and the country,” said Congressman Joyce. “Americans have a strong preference for door delivery service for medication, critical documents, and other necessities. That’s why I am proud to introduce this resolution to preserve door delivery for the individuals and businesses who expect and rely on it.”

Background:

  • In 2020, USPS proposed series of reforms that were intended to promote the financial stability of USPS by reducing service standards such as door delivery.
  • One suggested reform would cut door delivery service in neighborhoods by creating cluster box units (CBUs) that would serve multiple addresses and require customers to retrieve their mail from a secondary location.
  • However, according to the National Association of Letter Carriers, these reforms have not led to a significant cost savings for USPS, and this change has been highly unpopular among the American public.
